Webster Hall NYC, 10.24.2012 – In its 5th year celebrating the music of Tom Petty, Petty Fest put on its annual NYC show, this year at Webster Hall.  With an announced line-up that included some Petty Fest regulars, surprise appearances were the norm with John McEnroe, Cyndi Lauper, Fred Armisan of Saturday Night Live, Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon, Fab Moretti of the Strokes and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs all stopping by to pay tribute to Tom Petty and raise some money for charity.

Did I mention the line-up already included Karen Elson, Justin Townes Earle, Father John Misty, Adam Green, Nicole Atkins, Jesse Malin, Sammy James Jr. of Mooney Suzuki, Cory Chisel & Adriel Denae, Steve Schiltz of Hurricane Bells, Ryan Miller of Guster, Har Mar Superstar, Devendra Banhart, Johnny T, Andrew W.K., Matt Sweeney, Danny Clinch & The Tangiers Blues Band, Justin Long, Petter Ericson Stakee of Alberta Cross, Delta Spirit, Caveman, Mikki James, and Jody Porter of Fountains Of Wayne?  Check out my review in photos from Petty Fest East 2012 at Webster Hall.

I always like going to these shows where you really never know what is going to happen and tonight was a good example of why.  While the announced line-up for Petty Fest was great, having people like Cyndi Lauper, John McEnroe, Caleb Followill and Fred Armisen show up was a treat.  It’s the kind of night where you don’t care that there was no photo pit and that you had tp deal with the typical Webster Hall terrible lighting.  These images were shot mostly between 6400 and 8000 ISO.  And you don’t care that no pit meant not moving around to get better angles.  You just make do.
