Photos: Disturbed from Mayhem Fest at PNC 7.27.11

PNC Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ 7.27.11 – Disturbed was the headliner of the main stage and followed acts like Megadeth, Godsmack and Trivium.  This was the second time I shot Disturbed this year as I was the hired photographer for Disturbed at the Music as a Weapon tour this past winter.  Shooting a band a multiple times you begin to learn the intricacies of how they light their shows and how they move around on stage.  Disturbed uses a lot of lights, although this sometimes hurts as much as helps.

I do wish I could have moved around a bit.  PNC forces you to shoot from the aisle since there is no photo pit.  As a music photographer, I move around in the pit to get the light placement just right and frame my shots how I want.  That creativity is gone without a photo pit and I wind up with a smaller selection of photos than I normally would have.  But I am my toughest critic.  What’s nice when you have been the band’s photographer is when the guitarist recognizes you and makes sure to play to you a bit.  And even a fan standing next to you notices.

Great headliner.  Always such a fun shoot.  These guys know how to put on a stage show and please the crowd.  Its probably why thy are one of the biggest metal bands in the world right now.
